The key objectives of our Association are:

  • to provide youth (boys and girls) with an opportunity to learn and play hockey;
  • to establish and maintain a variety of hockey programs for all minor age groupings; to provide a positive environment for players and be a bridge for those who desire to play competitive hockey;
  • to ensure that each player, to the extent possible, will be able to participate in a hockey program suited to that player’s skill and abilities;
  • to encourage the participation of any and all interested persons and organizations wishing to volunteer their services in the administration and support of the Association’s affairs;
  • to foster and develop sportsmanship, team discipline, self-discipline, self-confidence, respect for others, and enjoyment through participation in hockey;
  • to create a broader interest in minor hockey in the Ottawa area and in particular in the Canterbury community;
  • to fulfill its role without purpose of gain for its members, and any profits or other gains to the organization being used in promoting these objectives; and to provide players with a “Fair Ice Time Policy”.
  • The ODMHA organizes and provides ice hockey according to the rules and regulation of these Associations.

The CHA operates a tiered House League hockey program, where numbers warrant, so that players can play at a level appropriate for their skills and abilities. The higher skilled players from Novice to Midget play in a House ‘A’ League. The least skilled players from Novice to Peewee play in a House ‘C’ League. The remaining players play in a House ‘B’ League. All Canterbury players will participate in the Bytown Minor Hockey League, which consists of all District B Associations: Canterbury, SouthEnd ,Ottawa Centre,Ottawa East and West End.

RESPECT, INTEGRITY, FAIRNESS

We dedicate ourselves to the advancement of minor hockey for all individuals in our association through progressive leadership by meaningful opportunities and enjoyable experiences in a safe and sportsmanlike environment.

All too often our children are denied those enjoyable experiences because we fail to protect the environment and the very principles on which the game is built. Hockey is more than a game it is an education. It is also an important part of their upbringing and the success of future generations depends on how well we teach them today.

Membership is a PRIVILEGE not a right and with that membership come inherent responsibilities and obligations to protect the sport and most importantly the growth and development of our children.

All participants players, parents/spectators/volunteers, coaches, officials, and sport administrators are equally responsible PARTNERS in this endeavour. Every individual involved must examine his/her attitudes, actions and behaviours and make a personal commitment to the principles of Fair Play RESPECT, INTEGRITY and FAIRNESS.

There can be no lesser expectation and no greater responsibility as a condition of membership in CHA.
